How to Clean Your Cast Iron Casserole

Our iconic, colourful casseroles are not only easy to use but also very easy to clean. Since 1925, they have been made from our durable enamelled cast iron, so they do not require the same level of care needed for traditional raw cast iron pots and pans. In fact, cast iron cleaning is easy with Le Creuset – it only takes a few simple steps to clean your cast iron casserole (also sometimes called a Dutch oven) and keep it in top shape for generations of recipes.

Steps to clean your casserole

Our casseroles are dishwasher-safe, but we recommend hand washing to keep your cookware and the enamel coating perfectly clean and lustrous.

Care for cast iron by following these easy steps:

Before first use

Remove all labels and packaging from the casserole, wash before use and you’re ready to cook! Conveniently, our cast iron casseroles do not need to be seasoned before nor after use

Allow to cool

Once you’re done cooking, let the casserole cool down before washing. Placing a hot casserole in cold water or filling a hot pot with cold water can crack the enamel.

Washing your casserole

Wash with warm soapy water and a soft nylon sponge – allowing to soak to remove particularly stubborn stains or residues. Use our Cast Iron Cookware Cleaner to assist with cleaning.

Store away safely

Use the accompanying plastic clips to store your dry casserole. Typically, we recommend storing your casserole in a dry cupboard or in an airy space away from steam.
